Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
• 1 lb ground beef (or half beef, half Italian sausage)
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce or homemade tomato sauce
• 1 tablespoon tomato paste
• 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
• Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Cheese Mixture:
• 15 oz ricotta cheese
• 1 large egg
• ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (or basil)
• Salt and pepper, to taste
For Assembly:
• 9 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
• 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)
Directions
1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more. Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer 10–15 minutes.
2. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread ½ cup meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer with 3 noodles, one-third of the ricotta mixture, one-third of the meat sauce, and one-third of the mozzarella. Repeat layers twice. Finish with a layer of noodles, sauce, and mozzarella. Sprinkle Parmesan on top.
4. Cover with foil (to prevent sticking) and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbling.
5. Let lasagna rest 10–15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
Chef’s Tips
• Add a splash of red wine to the sauce for depth of flavor.
• Substitute spinach in the cheese mixture for a veggie version.
